French
Subject Information
Currently compulsory at Junior and optional at Senior cycle. French is taught using the communicative approach using active teaching methods. All four language skills - reading, writing, speaking and listening are integrated in all lessons. French is examined at common level at Junior Cycle and students are offered the option of taking higher or ordinary level at LC.

Why Study French?
French is widely spoken in many Francophone countries, the largest growing population is in the African continent where many people speak French on a daily basis. It is an entry requirement for some NUI courses. Students have the opportunity to learn about French culture and everyday life in a French speaking country .
What kind of student would French suit?
Students who enjoy the challenge of learning a new language and communicating in French. Students with a flair for music often do well in French, students enjoy speaking the language as they make progress.
